Renovation of one of the oldest buildings in downtown Elkhart, the original post office, has transformed the space into a beautiful new facility for RETA. New columns and beams were added to the existing building to support the floor structure. Preservation of the existing brick from the historic post office during this remodel is now a unique design feature for the interior of the RETA facility. Renovation of a historic building can come with its difficulties, but we always welcome the opportunity for creativity while still maintaining the historical character of a building!

Close proximity to the road during this build presented a challenge for our team, yet served as an excellent demonstration of the application of our safety training. Throughout the entirety of the project, there was constant communication between our team and RETA. This aided in the decision-making process on material flexibility to meet the budget, thus creating no delay of the project as well. RETA provides many free and confidential services to women and families in need, a valuable resource for the community and a project that DJ was proud to be a part of.
