Q. Will my project require a building permit?

A. Most probably yes.

In Indiana, projects over a specified minimum size or proposing significant structural, mechanical, electrical changes or what’s called a change of occupancy, will in most cases require that you file for a Design Release from the State of Indiana. Most likely you will also be required to obtain a local building permit once you have received your State Building Release.

Projects that fall below the minimum size required for State permit submittal, will still most likely require that you pull a local building permit.

If you ever have any doubts about whether a permit is required, contact your local building Department, they will be glad to assist you.
